And Tommy doesn't know what day it is
- I'm surprisingly calm this year. We have a two-day layover between visits, which is unprecedented but shan't go unappreciated. We'll be in Rust-Belt Town Saturday and Sunday, or Sunday and Monday. Tripper's not overly excited about the overnighter, nor am I, but it's hard to visit everyone in one day and still have time to drink.
- Tripper has a new job, and it's going really well. Did I mention that in another post? Last night was his Christmas party and mine as well, so we ventured out into office-party-land separately.
- At my party we're keeping the out-with-the-old-in-with-the-new theme: dancing instead of the Sneaky Santa game, which took hours. Dancing is better, even if the new teachers snicker when they learn that we danced to Pour Some Sugar on Me at my prom. I used to snicker like that, too. It would be nice to be young and thin again if I could leave out poor and stupid, which usually accompany young.
- Sneaky Santa was renamed Nasty Claus at Tripper's party. He got screwed and ended up with a stack of round boxes dressed up like a snowman-- candy in one, cookies in another, and popcorn in the last. He contributed a nice bottle of booze. He doesn't have it in him to steal someone's gift when they are so pleased with it.
- A nice young boy was waiting for his bus yesterday afternoon in my homeroom, where I have a little basketball hoop and nerfish ball, old and peeling, its foamy guts showing. He happily listed his weekend plans-- grandparents visiting, seeing movies with his family. He kindly asked my own plans, and I said that the faculty party was that evening. "Cool," he commented. "Will you guys rent some movies or something?" When I told Tripper, he quipped, "Yeah, you'll sit around watching Cocoon."
- I need to finish shopping this weekend, but it looks like we're getting a big storm, some say a nor'easter, today. I have the Eagles' kids' Christmas party this afternoon, then a Christmas party for Tripper's old job. I should have gotten up early today and gone, but I couldn't...
- I got home from the party around 10:30 and had a snack to stave off a hangover from mixing Italian Root Beers and, well, beer. I then took a spin through my DVR'd programming and discovered a surprise, like finding a ten in last winter's coat pocket or waking up and realizing you still have two hours to sleep: The Amazing Journey-- The Story of the Who. I stayed up and watched most of it until Tripper came home and he filled me in on the party habits of the new workmates (very crucial info, you know). I fell in love with The Who all over again, just like in 1983.
- PG and I were at The Village, a plaza in Rust-Belt county featuring boutiques such as K-Mart, Stambaugh's Hardware, and Hallmark. not to mention Fashion Bug. At K-Mart we decided to buy each other our Christmas presents. She picked The Who's Greatest Hits, and I picked Meaty, Beaty, Big and Bouncy. We were so cool-- no Michael Jackson Thriller for us (although I'm pretty sure it lived at my house on vinyl).
- That made me think of other albums that resonate for me, reside inside of me, define me.
- The summer I got my license, U2's Joshua Tree played constantly.
- Scarecrow-- summer before that? 1986, maybe?
- Babysitting for my neighbors garnered me some money as well as the start of a beautiful relationship with Dark Side of the Moon.
- Tom Petty's Wildflowers
- Pink Floyd's Division Bell
- Alannis Morrisette: Jagged Little Pill (Both this one and the previous kept me company on countless trips to Syracuse to see PG.
- The Caulfields~ Whirligig
- I'm sure there are others. I should probably think about being productive.
And Tommy doesn't know what day it is.
He doesn't know who Jesus was and what praying is.
How can he be saved
From the eternal grave?
